Blackbutt Engineered Stair Treads 285x66mm bring one of Australia's most-loved hardwoods to a stair profile that stays straight, stable and true. Each tread is built as a lamella construction, a genuine Blackbutt hardwood top layer bonded to an engineered timber core, so you get the pale honey-blonde colour and clean, straight grain Blackbutt is known for on a substrate designed to resist the cupping and movement that can affect wide solid boards.

The result is a 285mm wide, 66mm thick tread with a solid, premium feel underfoot and a consistent face that finishes beautifully. It suits open-riser and closed-string staircases, floating-look treads, and renovation projects where a light, contemporary Australian timber is the brief.

Blackbutt is specified so often for good reason. Its light honey-blonde tone and subtle warm variation pair naturally with Blackbutt and light oak flooring, the straight and even grain reads clean and modern, and it is one of the hardest commercially available Australian species, which is exactly what a high-traffic staircase needs. It also takes clear, matte and water-based finishes exceptionally well.

Choosing engineered over solid is about stability across a wide face. The lamella core holds a 285mm tread flat and reduces the risk of cupping, twisting and seasonal movement, while the face you see and walk on is still genuine Blackbutt hardwood. It is also a more efficient use of premium timber, which is what makes a 66mm thick tread in this species accessible.
